What is E&O coverage and why is it important?
E&O insurance covers mistakes, real or perceived, which were made while performing professional services for a customer. The reality is that, as an agent, you can be sued even if you haven’t made a mistake if the customer believes that you have made one.
Investopedia defines E&O as:
“A type of liability insurance that protects companies and their employees against claims made by clients alleging inadequate work or negligent actions. Errors and omissions insurance often covers both court costs and any settlements up to the amount specified by the insurance contract.”
Aon’s Travel Agent & Tour Operator policy provides E&O coverage under Coverage Part C of the policy form. This coverage is designed to respond to claims asserted by clients of travel and tour companies for numerous types of human errors.
For example, booking the incorrect travel dates; booking the wrong hotel; or misinforming clients of the need for a visa or passport for their trip. It is important to note, that the travel agent or tour operator does not need to be sued in order for this coverage to be triggered.
